Artist Profile

Dominic Melendez, artistic director/owner of D’vice Latin Dance Studio, is a gifted Salsero and Bachetero, with rhythmic skills from his native Dominican Republic and is infused with his Caribbean rhythms. As a youngster, he became fascinated with the African based music of his country, particularly the Merengue, its national dance.

As a teenager, his family migrated to the US, and settled in Hoboken, New Jersey., where he studied Latin music and dance. Dominic Melendez has been dancing Salsa for over 10 years. Initially trained by Mario B’s owner, founder of Salsa Fever On 2. He also danced, taught and instructed classes with Marcus Nieves at MDN Latin Dance Studio. Both Schools reside in the NJ area.

Dominic Melendez is known for his floor shines, timing, NY Style by emphasizing the 2 and the 6 beats, and the use of clave. He became an expert in Eddie Torres ON 2 NY Style of Salsa. He migrated to S. Florida in 2012 and opened D’Vice Latin Dance Studio in N. Miami where he teaches authentic Dominican style Bachata and The Real Eddie Torres ON 2 NY Style Salsa. He has formed a student team, and they perform statewide to standing ovations. He is bi lingual and teaches in both English and Spanish.

In April 2013, he appeared on the stage of the Carefree Theater, dancing a self-choreographed 2 minute solo in “Club Cachao” an original Mambo Ballet, for the Spring Festival of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Dance Department, Kathleen Klein, Dean of Dance. The Legend Barbara Craddock endorses him as a teacher/choreographer.
