Amy Figueiras Dominguez, born and raised in Clinton Maryland to Cuban parents, began her dance journey at the age of 7. After winning her school talent show, Amy’s parents decided to embrace their daughter’s passion for dance and enrolled her at the Linda Natoli dance academy in Clinton Maryland. Here Amy studied and competed in various genres of dance including jazz, tap, ballet and hip-hop until the age of 12.
She was then taken under the wings of Shawn Cosby, director of the DC ShowBiz dancers based out of Washington DC. Amy was the youngest of this inner city dance company that was most recognized for their strong Hip- Hop and modern dance performances. While part of DC ShowBiz, Amy was trained by masters of an array of dance genres, which include, Napolean Dumo, Brian Freeman, Fatima, Rhapsody, Toni Lombre, Debbie Allen, George Faison, and various Alvin Ailey dancers. Amy also traveled to multiple states to study and perform at the Black in Dance Conferences, where Amy primarily focused of the study of Modern, Graham, Dunhum, and African dance.
Amy’s continued desire to learn placed her in opportunities to perform at recognized venues such as the Lincoln Theater, Washington Monument and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Amy also worked on BET’S Teen Summit and had the opportunity to dance for artist such as B2K, Lil BowWow, Mary Mary, Terror Squad, Charlie Baltimore, Genuine, Wu Tang, Lil Wayne, Ja Rule, DMX, and Black Eyed Peas. Later Amy began dancing for X-Faction Dance Company and landed performance opening for the Golden Scissor awards, Nina Sky and Twister.
In 2005 was when Amy was introduced to the Salsa scene. Raised in a Cuban household where Latin music was a primary part of her upbringing, her connection with Salsa/Mambo was instant. In 2007 she relocated to Gainesville Florida and enrolled in the dance department at Santa Fe College. Here Amy was honored to study under Tari Kendall, Mohammad DeCosta, and one of Cuba’s finest, Sonia Calero-Alonso surviving wife of Alberto Alonzo.
In 2009 Amy relocated to Orlando Florida and began studying, performing and teaching Mambo alongside of Eric Baez at Universal Mambo Dance Academy. During this time she taught and performed at various events and congresses. She also had the opportunity to open for Puerto Rican power and Ivy Queen.
In 2013, she began working as a soloist and founded her Ladies Styling dance company “Es El Amor.” The primary focuses of her company are to help build technique and styling for the female dancer and also help grow a passion for the music. She is most recognized for her passion and ability to teach her styling techniques. Her presence on the stage demonstrates her passion for the music and recently had the honor of dancing for one of the best of La Fania All Stars, Ismael Miranda. Amy has also taken her work internationally.
